Television is one of the great invention of science. The word television is composed of ' Tele ' and ' Vision' which means to see from a distance. It has reduced the distance like radio but it also shows us the pictures of the people speaking. It has also solved many social and cultural problems, In the beginning only pictures could be seen on its screen but technology changed and voice signals were also transmitted to the viewers.
People enjoy themselves with a variety of programs. Music, drama, sports, movies, talk shows and many other programs give a great pleasure to mankind. It is also saying an important role in the field of education. Many programs on topics of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and other subjects are centers of attraction for college and university. There are special programs for children education. The news from all over the world keep us informed about the events happening in their countries.
Although television has given us a lot of advantages and facilities but we should be aware of its disadvantages too. Children begin to neglect their studies and keep all time busy watching programs, some pictures and movies show daring on the screen. These films corrupt the mind of young men and women. Some advertisements are highly immoral. These advertisements are more harmful than the movies themselves.
In our country Pakistan, this problem should be taken seriously. we should use television and its telecasts for education purposes, and our recreations too should be in accordance with our tradition.
